Learning Center News

Our class has been working hard at recognizing and using capital letters and punctuation as they create detailed sentences.   In literature the students are able to ask and answer who, what, when, and where questions.  The class has learned what an author and an illustrator does for a reading selection at the different grade levels.  We can proudly say that we have read 14 chapter books so far this year as a class.
In science we are moving from the states of matter (solids, liquids, and gases) to weather and the water cycles.  Some of our upper grade students are learning about rocks and the layers of the earth.  In social studies we are learning about the holiday traditions for winter around the world.  Students have been excited to see where different countries are located on the globe and other maps.  Social skills are taught with the assistance of video modeling and role play.
Individualized education plan goals are worked on in small groups.  Students at every grade level are accessing courses with their grade level peers throughout the week.  Students are rotating through the Learning Center based on targeted skills with Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Jacobs.

In January when we come back from the break, room 5 students will be learning how to complete a book report.

In science we have been learning about air and how it can move things around us.  We measured how far we could blow (air) pom poms, and took data to compare the distance traveled by large versus small pom poms.  See attached pictures.
